How do we contact you?

Why am I not receiving appointment confirmations?

All confirmations go to the e-mail address you created during sign-up. Our office can add multiple e-mail addresses to your profile.

Can my Teen or Adult get a Real ID instead of a provisional license?

Do we use my car?

Nope

  • We exclusively use our cars because they are specially equipped with passenger side brake.
  • Our fleet is all the same SUV 2024 Toyota Corolla Cross AWD Hybrid
  • Either in White or Silver with clear markings of Student Driver Education.

How long is each drive session?

​All Teen or Adult the drives are typically 2 hours (e.g., 3:45–5:45 PM).

Are background checks required for instructors?

Yes.

  • We comply with Oregon DMV regulations (ORS 822.500) and conduct annual background checks for all staff.
  • Additionally all ODOT certified instructor have additional background checks every 2 years.
  • In all the driving cars we have commercial grade cameras which are 4K facing out and 750K inside the cabin and backed up to the cloud.

Canvas isn’t working. How do I access orientation?

1stLearntodrive uses the Student Canvas (Free Account for Course Access)

Purpose:

Used by students/parents to access course materials, Zoom links, and submit assignments (e.g., permit photos, driving logs).

Access:

  1. Requires a free personal account (school accounts won’t work).
  2. URL: https://canvas.instructure.com
  3. Used for:
    1. Orientation
    2. Homework submissions
    3. Drive schedules

Final Drive & Licensing

What’s needed for the final drive?

Submit:

  • Course completion: Assignments and drive sheets turned in
  • Page 107 (driving log)
  • Final drive sheet
  • The hard copy which DMV sent you in the mail, a Permit photo (if missing).

Instructor Changes

Can my student switch instructors due to a poor fit or special needs?

Yes! Not everyone resonates with each other send message thru canvas or contact us at office@1stlearntodrive.com with the student’s name.

Example:“[Student Name] needs a different instructor due to communication style conflicts. Please reassign his remaining drives.”

DMV Waiver & Completion Confirmation

The DMV doesn’t have my student’s completion information. What should I do?

Before you go to DMV ensure the student has their confirmation number (e.g., 0-014-452-399).

What am I suppose to practice in the 10 hours prior to drive 1&2?

​Located in the Announcement tab in canvas:

  • Get the basics down which was taught in orientation like, reference points (under side of the mirrors), push pull steering, target area, blind spots (tip side mirrors out), hand position 8 &4, Lane position LP1,LP2,LP3.  If you really want a challenge practice MSMOG.

How do I request a Certificate of Completion for insurance purposes?

​You can request a Certificate of Completion by emailing our office at drive@1stlearntodrive.com or replying to your confirmation email. Include the student’s full name and the class they attended. Certificates are typically sent as PDF attachments.

Example Request: “Hello, I need a Certificate of Completion for [Student Name] who completed the course on [Date]. Please send it to [Your Email] for insurance purposes. Thank you!”

Can I pass my final drive with only 5 hours of practice?

​Rule of Thumb

  1. Students with the 10 hours prior to 1&2 are prepared, because we go on road on drive two.
  2. Student with 50 hours are highly likely to pass the final drive test and overall are more confident and comfortable.
  3. From orientation I did say some students are more natural drivers and some are not and those may need more practice.

Do I need to submit a driving log (Page 107)?

The rules:

  1. DMV requires 50 hours prior to license.
  2. ODOT (this course) requires 5 hours (which is 1 hour after each drive with instructor).
  3. 1stLearntodrive requires 10 hours prior to drive 1&2.
  4. Most other driving schools require 15 hours prior to drive 1&2.

How do I know my teen’s drive schedule?

Schedules are in Canvas under “Drive Schedule”

​Can my teen drive with a friend in the same session?

Yes, if both are enrolled in the same class and sign them up together on the Drive Schedule in Canvas.

I have Canvas on my cell phone from my School, can I add this course?

If you used a school canvas account, you may need to switch accounts. Follow these steps:

  1. Go to “Find another School” in Canvas.
  2. Search for “Free Canvas Account.”
  3. Use the login credentials from your welcome email.
  4. There is also a community in canvas to asked question (link)

​What are the requirements to apply for a driver's license?

  1. You must have held a learner’s permit for at least six months. ​
  2. You must be at least 16 years old. ​
  3. You need to have completed 50 hours of driving practice. ​
  4. Your driver’s education completion must be submitted to the DMV. ​
  5. Use the confirmation number provided by the driving school when submitting your driver’s education completion.

How do I reschedule or cancel an appointment?

Log into Appointment software and cancel

  • Keep in mind cancellations or rescheduling requests need to be made more than 48 hours before the appointment to avoid charges.
  • Be mindful if prior to 48 hours we still need to pay instructor so fees may apply and s it leave a gap in their schedule.
